slowUp – Switzerland’s car-free action days
The slowUp formula is as simple as it is convincing: take 30 km of road in attractive countryside, close them off to motorised vehicles for a day and provide a supporting programme with a wide variety of entertainments along the route. The result will be a festive occasion like no other: young and old, families and singles, exercise fans and pleasure freaks – all enjoy the fun atmosphere in a car-free zone.
As far as possible, slow-Up routes are on the level. The choice of pace and distance is up to each individual. When making your way to or from the action day, we recommend you travel under your own steam or with public transport. Participation is free of charge.
slowUp is an impressive success story. Since it started as a prelude to Expo 02 in the year 2000, slowUp has seen dynamic growth. Year in, year out the number of events has increased, as has the number of participants. Within a very short time the idea became a national institution – one of the largest as far as the number of active participants is concerned. More than 500'000 people now take part in one of a total 18 slowUp events organized every year.
